Hydraulic Calculation of Light and Small Sprinkling Unit Using Numerical SimulationPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: 2012 Dallas, Texas, July 29 - August 1, 2012 121341206.(doi:10.13031/2013.42122)Authors: Xing-ye Zhu, Shou-qi Yuan Keywords: Sprinkler irrigation system, Pressure distribution, Velocity distribution, Numerical simulation To improve the design and evaluation of a sprinkler irrigation system, an analytical procedure for a single multiple outlets pipelines is presented in this paper. The calculation procedure of total friction loss was introduced. A numerical simulation taking into account the hydraulic parameters inside the sprinkling units was carried out. The selected materials as well as setting modes were determined using the software of FLUENT. It was used to calculate out both the pressure and velocity distribution along the lateral. Experiments were carried out for this system, including the measured parameters of the flow-rate, rotational speed of the pump, and working pressure for the sprinklers. Theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and experiments were compared with each other and studied systemically. The results showed that the numerical simulation results agreed well to the experimental results. It supplied a foundation for the reasonable application of sprinkler irrigation system for the future. It was implied that structural optimization approach can be effectively implemented by CFD simulation. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
