It is recognized that palatability is not a measurable component of feed and cannot be measured directly, but some indicators of palatability may be found,so experiment was conducted to investigate the influences of moisture content, pellet hardness, starch gelatinization, pasting properties, and other factors on the palatability of pellet feed. The results showed the influence of moisture content, pellet hardness, and starch gelatinization on the palatability of pellet feed. Considering feed formulation, processing technology and other aspects of the pellet feed, high quality pellet feed is controlled within a certain range of physical and chemical parameters, moisture content (12%-13.5%), pellet hardness (2000g-3000g), final viscosity (15000-20000cP), and the starch gelatinization degree (50%-90%).
