Fruit and vegetable harvesting are strongly affected by labor shortages. Prototype robotic harvesters have not yet evolved to commercial products, mainly for technological and economic reasons. An alternative scenario is to reduce the number of required pickers, by increasing each pickers overall efficiency. This could be achieved by utilizing teams of robots that transport the harvested produce to unloading stations, thus reducing or eliminating workers non-productive walking times.
