The animal feed industry utilizes a number of co-products of ethanol production as animal feed. With increasing global ethanol production and availability of co-products, improvement in feeding strategies and development of superior feed products is desirable. The challenge of using ethanol co-products, wheat bran and condensed distillers solubles (CDS), as animal feed was to ensure that the feed pellets developed were viable. Wheat bran and CDS were blended in three varying proportions (10% CDS:90% bran, 20% CDS:80% bran and 30% CDS:70% bran) for production of feed pellets. The bran-CDS composite moisture content was lowered to 12-14% by drying in cabinet dryer (35C and 40% RH). The nutritional composition analysis of the three composites prior to pelleting suggests that the protein content increases from 14.59 to 16.20% as the percentage of CDS added is increased. Following a similar trend, the fiber content decreases from 56.07 to 55.11% as CDS percentage is increased. The samples were pelleted in a pilot scale pellet mill and the pellets were then stored at a controlled environment for 14 d. Test for pellet durability, density, dimensional stability, nutritional analysis, and moisture content were conducted immediately, after pelleting, and after 14 d of storage. The results indicated that the 30% CDS:70% bran had unparallel physico-chemical properties. Cooling the pelleting till 14 d improved the physical properties of the pellets.
