The various constituents and characteristics of effluent sources can cause significant challenges to the longevity and operation of mechanized irrigation systems. Understanding the physical and chemical properties of the effluent source and making some appropriate choices in the design of the system can and should lead to many years of successful operation. It is also important to set some reasonable guidelines for ongoing maintenance of the various components of the system.
