Study of Anammox and Denitrification Co-occurring with Anaerobic Digestion of Poultry ManurePublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Paper number 012297, 2001 ASAE Annual Meeting. (doi: 10.13031/2013.4118) @2001Authors: Xiao Dong, Ernest W. Tollner Keywords: Anammox, Denitrification, Anaerobic digestion, Anaerobic Ammonia Oxidation, Nitrogen removal, Poultry manure An approach based on new process development and biological nitrogen transformation was investigated to remove nitrogen in poultry while stabilizing the wastes. The possibility of Anammox in anaerobic digestion of animal wastewater was studied in batch culture using serum bottles. It was shown that Anammox could not practically be embedded into the anaerobic digestion process. Instead, it was found that denitrification could happen together with anaerobic digestion.
