An acoustic system for the detection of the hollow in watermelonPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: 2011 Louisville, Kentucky, August 7-10, 2011 1110468.(doi:10.13031/2013.40598)Authors: Wei Yan jun, Xiuqin Rao, Bin Qi Keywords: Hollow of watermelon; Acoustic penetration ratio; Accuracy; SMLR; DA This research developed an acoustic system for the detection of hollow in watermelon by tapping and receiving the signals in 6 different points. Accelerate sensors were chosen for sensing the vibration of watermelons. The stepwise multiple linear regression (SMLR) and the discriminant analysis (DA) statistic method in the software TQ were used for the data analysis. The acoustic parameter used in the research was the Acoustic penetration ratio (symbol not available in html, see pdf for complete version.).The results showed that the equator part can have better prediction of hollow, and the accuracy of SMLR was higher than that of DA, more than 0.8.
