Soil Moisture Fluctuations as Affected by Straw-mat MulchPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: International Symposium on Erosion and Landscape Evolution (ISELE), 18-21 September 2011, Anchorage, Alaska 711P0311cd Paper #11121.(doi:10.13031/2013.39298)Authors: Chia-Chun Wu, Chen-Han Wang, Yu-Ting Chan Keywords: Soil moisture fluctuation, Mulch, Straw mat, BMPs The objective of this study is to assess the effect of straw-mat mulch on soil water fluctuations under field conditions. The study was conducted on a bare runoff plot with average slope gradient of 40%. Soil moisture smart sensors were installed 200mm below the soil surface at three locations, which were 7-, 14-, and 21-m away from the top edge of the slope respectively. Soil moisture records were logged at 1-min intervals before and after the implementation of straw mat (Figure a). (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
