First paragraph: Forest engineering involves the timber-extraction process and afforestation or reforestation practices. It also involves attention to techniques and safety aspects for sound operating methods. The steps of the extraction of logs from the forest are: Felling Log processing (delimbing debarking, and slashing) Skidding (bunching, sorting, and piling) Transportation (forest roads, trucks, etc.) The extraction or removal conditions of some or of all the trees from a forest area resemble harvesting of agricultural products or mining of other raw materials. However, the biological and environmental impacts of forestry operations may have detrimental consequences for air, soil, and water, so that particular ways of thinking and practices must be added to engineering science for the engineer managing forests. Included in this section are some forest-engineering recommendations that best promote biodiversity of vegetation, environmental protection, and sustainability of nature and human-activities conservation.
