First paragraph: Protected cultivation is one of the most intensive methods of plant production. This means that both investment and operating costs are quite high. Labor costs still form the main part of production costs in protected cultivation; therefore, it is necessary to use specific equipment for seeding, transplanting, transportation, irrigation, and plant protection. In some areas of protected cultivation (e.g., seedling and pot-plant production), industrial-like production systems are now practiced with automatic handling and transportation of plants. These types of systems are useful for specialized nurseries.
