Revision of The Design of Dairy Cow Housing CIGR WG 14

The CIGR (International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering) Section II Working Group 14 Cattle Housing has members from Austria, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA and is responsible for design recommendations for dairy and beef cattle. The group is completing a revision to The Design of Dairy Cow Housing, August 1994. The revised report will include information on Fundamentals (body dimensions, animal needs, behavior and welfare, environmental requirements, sustainability); Terminology; Housing Systems (cubicle; loose housing sloped floor, yards, bedded systems; tied housing); Feeders;; Drinkers; Flooring; Milking Facilities; Climatisation; Calves and Heifers; Cattle Handling; Safety. The project will be reported at The XVII CIGR World Congress 2010 Quebec, Canada, 13 17 June 2010 with final publication to occur later.
