This research analyzed design considerations for the mechanical harvesting of Bokbunja (Rubus coreanus Miquel) berries and manufactured a prototype mechanical Bokbunja harvester to selectively harvest mature berries. The most critical design factors for mechanical harvesting are the shape of the bushes, the cane training methods, and the selective harvesting of mature berries. The height of the bushes is around 120 150 cm from the ground and the width is approximately 120 cm. The canes are 150 cm long and typically entangle each other despite being trained. Mature Bokbunja berries are picked by hands five to six times each harvesting season. The berries are very soft with thin skin.
