Research on the Mechanical Operational Cost of Grain Production in China——Based on a Nationwide Questionnaire Survey

Due to the fluctuation of international petroleum price, fuel supply and its market price are quite unstable recently in China, which has affected the farmers economic profit severely. Under these circumstances, a research group from the College of Engineering at China Agriculture University carried out a nationwide questionnaire survey on mechanical operational cost of grain-production in January, 2009. According to the survey, the average mechanical operational cost per hectare of wheat, maize, and rice production is 1670.58RMB/ha.,1524.84 RMB/ha., and 2418.90RMB/ha. The cost structures between wheat and corn are Similar. The total cost of rice is much higher than wheat and corn. It is suggested that fuel cost is considered to be one of the major influence factors in the entire operational cost. If the fuel price was increased by 1 RMB/L, the increase of total fuel cost will rise up for 111.45 RMB/ha., 105.15 RMB/ha., and 128.85 RMB/ha. And the mechanical operational profit depends on the service price of mechanical operation, the variable cost and the mechanical operational area. If fuel subsidies of agricultural production are carried out in time, the mechanical operational costs of grain production will be reduced, and the burden on farmers and agricultural machinery users will be lighten.
