USDA-NRCS recognizes the need to move into the 21st century with determinations of basic hydrology data that are used to design conservation practices. GIS specialists and engineers are working together to develop GIS tools that delineate a watershed, determine its longest hydraulic length, calculate average watershed slope, and develop a composite runoff curve number. This tool and its development are described and the steps for application are given.
