Introductory paragraphs: This chapter contains several design projects that use information from multiple chapters. These projects are simplifications of two- and three-dimensional design situations that occur in commercial machines. Each project has a brief introduction, a set of design specifications, and a list if items that should be included in the final report. One or two of the dimensions and the loading are variables. Suggested values are provided in a table of parameters. The specifications, parameters, and the design verifications topics can be modified and/or supplemented as the reader desires. The parameter values do not have to be selected from the same row. For example, the roof hoist truss shown in Figure 14.3 has the dimensions a and b as variables. Suggested values for these dimensions are given in Table 14.1. The values for a and b could be 36 and 72 inches, respectively, or the user could change a to 42 inches, which is not included in Table 14.1. The parameters in Table 14.1 can generate 60 different design situations. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
