Prediction of levee failures during extreme flood conditions is a complex problem involving flow dynamics, sediment transport, mass erosion and soil geotechnical properties. Levees are normally constructed of homogeneous soil with predominant cohesive behavior. The formation and development of headcuts is one of the processes that lead to the failure of levees constructed with cohesive soils.
