Abstract [First paragraphs]: Powered tillage equipment can be classified as rotary tillers, crank tillers, and vibratory tillers. Rotary tillers contain powered straight shafts whereas crank tillers and vibratory tillers contain powered crank mechanisms. Crank tillers are equipped with either tines or blades (in which case they are called spading machines). The most common type of vibratory tiller is the vibratory subsoiler, which is discussed in Part II of this chapter.
