POLE-TYPE tilt-up design and construction as developed and practiced at Virginia Polytechnic Institute over a 25-year period is discussed. Both farm service and residential prototype buildings have been successfully designed and built by these methods. Most have proved to be more economical than conventional designs and all prototypes have been durable and have performed well. The technique is also considered for light commercial buildings.
