An Implement for Handling Drip Irrigation LateralsPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Applied Engineering in Agriculture. 2(2): 144-147. (doi: 10.13031/2013.26730) @1986Authors: Wayne Coates Keywords: Drip irrigation, Installation, Irrigation laterals An implement for installing and retrieving surface drip irrigation laterals was designed and tested. Only one worker was required to successfully operate the implement. Labor capacities increased 108% to 1.02 ha/h/worker, for installation and 16%, to 0.96 ha/h/worker, for retrieval, over existing implements. An automatic braking system eliminated tube tangling by retarding reel rotation. Tube separation, previously encountered during retrieval, was reduced by using a pair of wheels rather than the reel to pull the laterals. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
