Improving the Safety of Plot Forage HarvestersPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Applied Engineering in Agriculture. 2(1): 14-15. (doi: 10.13031/2013.26698) @1986Authors: Philippe Savoie, Camille Rouleau Keywords: Agricultural safety, Forage, Harvester SMALL Hail-type forage harvesters used on experimental plots can present a safety hazard during their operation. Frequent unloading of the hopper exposes the laborer to ejected objects and to close proximity with the rotating flail. A double action pulley was fabricated and used to alternately drive or brake the flail axis. As the V-belt was disengaged, a lever arm simultaneously tightened the brake against the tlail axis. Proper use of the double action pulley and the lever brake should reduce the risk of accidents with small plot forage harvesters. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
