A survey of South Carolina pesticide applicators was conducted in 1985. Nearly 85% of applicators applied material with error rates greater than 10% when compared to intended rates. Tank-mix errors greater than 10% occurred in 76% of samples while calibration errors greater than 10% occurred in 60% of samples. Application errors tended toward under application with 56% of samples applying active ingredient below label rates, 27% within label rates, and 17% over label rates.
