A round bale cutter was developed as an aid in handling and feeding large round hay bales in confined areas. The cutter consisted of a reciprocating blade 2.2 m (7.25 ft) long which at 1070 cycles/min could cut lengthwise through a 2 m (6.5 ft) diameter bale in 25 s. The cutter was powered hydraulically and required about 3 kW (4 hp) while cutting.
