Field Testing of Several Pesticide Spray AtomizersPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Applied Engineering in Agriculture. 5(3): 319-323. (doi: 10.13031/2013.26520) @1989Authors: Joel T. Walker, Dennis R. Gardisser, Gary W. Huitink Keywords: Fan nozzle, Foliar application, Spray deposition, Weed control Several different chemical spray atomizers were evaluated in soybeans for weed control by foliar-applied herbicides (Table 11). Although many of these performed as well as conventional fan nozzles during the six years of tests, none performed better than the fan nozzles. When some of the non-conventional atomizers performed well at reduced herbicide rates, the fan nozzles did also. Considering the weed control provided and the additional expense and complexity of the non-conventional devices, hydraulic fan nozzles would seem to be the most appropriate choice for functional and low-cost foliar-applied weed control.
