An Expert System for Grain Elevator Hazard PreventionPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Applied Engineering in Agriculture. 7(6): 701-704. (doi: 10.13031/2013.26289) @1991Authors: S. Shenoi, C. S. Chang, H. H. Converse, L. T. Fan Keywords: Expert systems, Grain elevator, Grain storage, Hazard prevention An expert system was developed and implemented for analysis of hazards in grain elevator facilities. The system queries the user and identifies potential hazards based on the information supplied and displays the corresponding solutions (including graphics) with particular reference to National Electrical Code and OSHA provisions. Grain elevator explosions result in considerable loss of life and property. By exhaustively searching for possible hazards present in a grain elevator facility, the system can assist elevator personnel in locating possible hazards and in prescribing the appropriate actions for preventing their occurrence. Moreover, its ability to run on an IBM PC compatible computer is especially attractive for on-site applications. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
