Determining the Spray Drop Size Spectrum from a Spinning Cup Atomizer

The equations of motion were used to predict the point of impact in the horizontal for each drop size class emitted by a spinning cup atomizer. The predictions were verified by drop size measurements on MgO coated slides. These equations were then used as a basis for obtaining the spray drop size spectrum by spray stain counting. Comparison between this technique and laser-based measurements showed good agreements at typical atomizer speeds and flow rates.
