1 Purpose

1.1 This Engineering Practice sets forth guidelines for those who prepare field sprayer calibration procedures. The purpose is to encourage practices that will improve uniformity, accuracy, and safety of pesticide application with field sprayers.

2 Scope

2.1 This Engineering Practice provides information on the calibration of boom-type field sprayers used for broadcast, band, or row applications. Some equipment and procedures specified herein are intended for single-nozzle calibration and with suitable modifications can be used for boom or multiple-nozzle calibration. Thus these procedures can be adapted to boomless and air-carrier type sprayers for broadcast applications and to rotary atomizers such as spinning disks. Because of the nature of the variables involved in pesticide application, a single calibration procedure applicable in all situations is not feasible.
