Electrostatic Space Discharge System for Reducing Dust in a Swine Finishing BarnPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Paper number RRV07145, ASABE/CSBE North Central Intersectional Meeting. (doi: 10.13031/2013.24186) @2007Authors: Brett Joseph Hofer, Dick E Nicolai Keywords: Dust, Swine, Odor, Airborne Dust High levels of airborne dust from various sources pollute swine facility air. An electrostatic space discharge system (ESDS) was used to reduce the amount of airborne dust in one room in the swine facility. A second room served as a control so that total reduction could be analyzed. The results show that the ESDS reduced the amount of airborne dust in the room containing the ESDS compared to the room without the system. Further studies should be done to analyze the potential effects of ESDS in swine facilities on odor, pathogens, and gasses. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
