Abstract A significant challenge faced by the hog industry in Manitoba is the odour associated with the ventilation of barns. Biofiltration has been shown to effectively treat livestock odour, but biofilters have not yet been efficiently integrated into the barn system. One way to integrate a biofilter with a barn is to situate the biofilter inside the barn. The presentation will describe the design of the interior-mounted biofilter that consists of individual cartridges that can be emptied, sterilized, and refilled with each new batch of pigs. In addition, the presentation will describe the evaluation of the interior-mounted biofilter. In addition to monitoring the performance of the biofilter, the health and behaviour of the pigs will also be monitored.
