VEGETATIVE FILTER STRIPS MODELING OF A SMALL WATERSHEDPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Paper number 022133, 2002 ASAE Annual Meeting. (doi: 10.13031/2013.24116) @2002Authors: Unal Kizil, Lowell A Disrud Keywords: Keywords: Sediment trapping, filter strips, small watershed Vegetative filter strips modeling of a small (817 m x 875 m) watershed was conducted. For different widths, lengths, and grasses alternative designs were simulated using a computer program (VFSMOD). Required geographical data were extracted using ArcView GIS software, and other Internet sources. Results showed that sediment-trapping efficiencies of proposed filter strips could be up to 63-74 %. Also, it was found that type of grass does not affect the trapping efficiency for this particular watershed. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
