Slow percolation capability of soil in the Kansas City, Kansas metropolitan area caused failures of many conventional septic tank and leaching trench sewage disposal systems, creating environmentally unsafe and unpleasant conditions for consumers. System failures resulted in costly repair attempts and problems for regulatory agencies. A need existed for development of a safe, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly sewage disposal system for residential properties. The Evaporation-Transpiration-Infiltration (EVTI) disposal trench system was developed specifically to address this need.
