The Korean rural information support system (KRISS) followed up classic DSS design. This paper shows the database part of the system, efficient database design for KRISS. For supporting decision making of rural regions the system should have proper database schema through broad investigation and analysis of extant statistical data because rural regions have various and typical characteristics. The system database should be designed for integrated schema and constructed for supporting the decision making. The characteristics of rural data can be divided into industrial and social categories. ‘National Agricultural Statistics (NAS)’ and ‘County Annual Statistical Report (CASR)’ are representative statistical data in each category so the system adapted the analysis result. OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) is selected for improving query speed although a standard, normalized database structure is usually OLTP (Online Transaction Processing). The system database was applied to 2000 statistical data set including Agricultural Census Report (ACR) and County Annual Statistics Report (CASR) and tested related to speed and reliability.(Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
