Temperature is a determining factor in the growth and reproduction of eastern oysters (Crassostrea virginica) and also affects the bacteria responsible for biofiltration in recirculation systems. Temperature control of physiological processes such as spawning and growth of oysters and effective biofiltration was the focus of this study. The system consisted of 18 independent tanks controlled by a central computer workstation. Each of these tanks was designed to maintain individual temperatures and had a capacity of 250 L.
