Hydrologic modeling simulations using data with short time intervals (hours) and high spatial resolution (4 km) are expected to capture and describe severe events increasing reliability of loading estimates. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model was applied to assess its storm event simulation algorithms using Next-Generation Weather Radar (NEXRAD) rainfall data fields. This case study focuses on a highly monitored watershed (Green Creek), part of the Upper North Bosque River watershed, located in Central Texas. This paper reports preliminary results of the comparison of NEXRAD rainfall fields with rain gage records and of the simulated stream flow, sediment yield, nitrogen and phosphorus loading for selected storms.
