The objective of this project is to develop an optimum management practice for irrigation of vegetable crops utilizing a solar powered mini-pivot while understanding the systems operational capabilities. The resultant irrigation management practice will look at altering water application rates, center pivot run-speed and sprinkler nozzle layout while maintaining a soil water content of 60 - 70 percent of field capacity, optimum for most vegetable crops (SAF 2005). The resulting management practices should aid vegetable producers throughout Saskatchewan as the popularity of the new technology of solar power irrigation increases.
