Landmand.Dk – Experiences With A Personal Portal For FarmersPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Computers in Agriculture and Natural Resources, 4th World Congress Conference, Proceedings of the 24-26 July 2006 (Orlando, Florida USA) Publication Date 24 July 2006 701P0606.(doi:10.13031/2013.21861)Authors: Nicolai Fog Hansen, Jens Peter Hansen, Ann Karina Høgh Robson Keywords: Personalisation, portal, farmers, Internet Denmark is known throughout Europe as the country in which farmers have been early to adopt the Internet. Today, approximately 80 % of the farmers have access to the Internet, and there is an increase in the activity on sites offering information and services to the farmers. However, being a typical farmer, it is a time consuming exercise trying to utilise the possibilities on the Internet. Danish Agricultural Advisory Service provided their first website in 1995. At first, the content was meant for the employees at the local advisory centres. Later on, as the farmers got online, the information and applications were made available to them as well. Today, the 45,000 Danish farmers have many sources of information, and the main problem is to filter the information. The three main organisations in Danish agriculture joined forces in 2002 to develop a portal for farmers - Landmand.dk. Launched in April 2005, this portal is free to use for approx. 40,000 agricultural members. It offers extensive possibilities for personalisation of a "My page" section. Before the launch of the portal, the same information was available from individual organisations. However, the portal establishes a Single Sign On to a wide range of applications, which ensures that the farmers need only one userID and password to access these services. Furthermore, content is targeted to fit the users needs and interests. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
