Large eddy simulation (LES) techniques are being widely used in the study of indoor airflow and particulate matters with the availability of increasing and cheap computational power. In LES techniques, the unsteady three-dimensional continuity, momentum and subgrid turbulence model equations are solved. Three commonly used subgrid turbulence models are Smagorinsky LES model, LES model based on Renormalization Group (RNG) theory and Dynamic LES model. In this paper, RNG-LES model was used to numerically investigate airflows in a three-dimensional ventilated room. The measured air velocities were used to validate the simulation results. Numerical results were compared with those from Smagorinsky and Dynamical LES models. Furthermore, the influence of different inlet boundary conditions was investigated. The results showed that LES RNG model could qualitatively predict the airflow field while using less computer efforts than Dynamic LES model.
