DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR SCHEDULING AND EVALUATION OF TURFGRASS EQUIPMENTPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Applied Engineering in Agriculture. 14(2): 201-207. (doi: 10.13031/2013.19368) @1998Authors: F. R. Beard Keywords: Simulation, Machinery management, Turfgrass equipment A computer model for the evaluation and scheduling of turfgrass cultural practices was developed with the assistance of turfgrass scientists and golf course superintendents. The model utilized five database files (calendar of events, course attributes, equipment complement, equipment operators, and weather history) to provided record keeping and information recall. The model simulated turfgrass maintenance practices to analyze operational strategies and provide decision support information for task scheduling. Database variables were selected to allow ease in testing the model, and the equipment complement was varied to evaluate the success in completing assigned tasks. The model was developed so that the scheduling and evaluation strategies involved in this application would also be applicable to sports fields, parks, educational institutions, industries, municipalities, and other facilities requiring extensive turf care operations.
