The state of pollution of some groundwater and surface water in Oyo State were examined. The surface and ground water analyzed for some physicochemical parameters and metal content.

The ranges of concentration levels for the surface water are pH, 7.2 8.4; temperature, 19.0 300C; total solids, 150.0 300.0mgl-1; dissolved oxygen, 4.0 7.0 mgl-1; total hardness, 27.0 91.0 mgl-1; sodium, 17.0 36.0 mgl-1; magnesium, 20.0 46.5 mgl-1; chloride, 7.0 30.0 mgl-1; iron, 0.12 0.85 mgl-1; silica, 6.0 13.0 mgl-1; nitrite ions, 0.94 2.40 mgl-1; and calcium ions, 9.8 18.9 mgl-1.

For groundwater, the ranges are pH, 6.0 7.9; temperature, 10.0 300C; total alkalinity, 30.0 140.0mgl-1; dissolved oxygen, 0.0 8.0 mgl-1; total hardness, 2.0 160.0 mgl-1; total solids, 80.0 840.0 mgl-1; sodium, 8.5 21.5 mgl-1; magnesium, 10.5 32.5 mgl-1; chloride, 4.5 > 200.0 mgl-1; iron, 0.24 24 mgl-1; silica, 8.0 48.0mgl-1; nitrate ions, 1.8 76.0 mgl-1; and calcium ions, 4.8 210.9 mgl-1.
