In order to achieve precise dry granular fertilizer placement, a study was undertaken to determine the dynamic behavior of the hydraulic components that control the dispersing and distribution of the fertilizer particles. A study on the dynamic behavior of the solenoid valve and the motor-gearbox combination of the hydraulic system of a commercial spreader for citrus application was performed. The solenoid valve was modeled as a pure delay. The motor-gearbox combinations response was fast as compared to the valves and the needs of the system.
