A system was created to automatically geo-rectify images and allow easy transfer into a site specific farming program using a special electronics box, keyboard, GPS, plane attitude sensor, color infrared camera system, and software package. The electronics box allowed integration of the hardware components while the software package allowed automatic geo-rectification and registration of the images. Data was stored in a file format easy to read into site specific farming programs (such as Farmworks or SSToolbox) where a prescription map could be made for variable rate technology systems. Transformation times were less than 1 minute per image and spatial accuracies of the system was 8.6 m using only a low cost GPS and a camera aligned to the flight horizon of the aircraft. Advantages of the system are that a large number of images can be processed quickly and registered without human interpretation.
