The multi-tasks model, BASINS3, developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is useful for investigation of different scenarios based on environmental conditions. The model is easy to operate. The model required large volume of data including topographic and monitored data from the watershed.

The BASINS3 was assessed for possible application to Hanjiang watershed for different scenarios. Due to incompatible format of digital map, land use data and soil property of Hanjiang watershed, direct application of BASINS3 to Hanjiang River was unable to achieve. A subroutine should be developed to convert the current standard digital map used in Hanjiang watershed to the standard format of BASINS3.

This work is one of the proposed activities undertaken by Madam Ye and Dr. Hou during their three months visit at the National Water Research Institute, Burlington, Ontario. The purpose of their visit was primarily for professional development to gain experiences on modeling of nonpoint source pollution with particular interest in multi-model integration on watershed modeling. Multi-model integration provides a useful tool to investigate various environmental scenarios in the watershed.
