This paper describes operations and performance of an automated quality verification system for eggplant fruits and its main features. The system utilizes improved engineering design and image-processing techniques and to convey and grade products. Basically two inspection stages of the system can be identified; external fruit inspection by use of color information and internal fruit quality inspection by use of fruit surface gloss. To inspect all sides of fruit, a rotary tray system in which each tray could turn over with fruit between two plates was developed. This mechanism could softly handle fruits whose skins were delicate.
