This paper evaluates the operation performance of the mechanical planter, Meca and the
pneumatic planter with a suction-pressure seed picker, Becker affected by the dimensional and
shape characteristics of the sugar beet seeds used.
In evaluating the operation performance of the given planting equipments, we monitored precision of
sowing, double sowing, normal sowing and missed sowing, during field operation. The planters were
evaluated under normal operating conditions according to the setting of their operators and both
planters were evaluated on the same field.
In conclusion, with the seeds used, the planters did not meet the requirements based on their
dimension and shape characteristics. This also applied to seeds with the same calibration.
