Fouling Performance of Plate Heat Exchangers using a 2D Dynamic ModelPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Paper number NABEC-04-0016, 2004 Special Meeting Papers . (doi: 10.13031/2013.16113)Authors: Soojin Jun and V. M. Puri Keywords: 2D fouling, milk deposit, flow rate, sensor, CIP The emphasis of modeling was on fouling prediction based on the hydro- and thermodynamic performance of PHEs in 2D environment. Different types of multichannel PHEs, i. e. 6-channel PHE 1 and 10-channel PHE 2 with both counter-current and co-current flows were applied to validate the model by visualization and quantification of milk deposit developed in the fluid channels. The aggregation rate of the unfolded protein was observed to increase exponentially with increasing wall temperature, especially in the recirculation zones of flow streams. The model prediction is expected to determine the sensor location appropriate for online monitoring of fouling. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
