Onsite wastewater treatment systems generate residuals. The residuals generated during the treatment of domestic wastes are regulated by Federal Rule (40 CFR Part 503) and state rules may augment these federal rules. Rule development depends on availability of scientific information. This paper describes the results of analysis of septage receiver sites and assessment of quality of materials applied to land receiver sites in North Carolina. The paper describes results collected through multi-year assessments of product quality.
