Sediment and nutrient losses were measured from a subsurface drainage-runoff-erosion experiment for the years 1988 to 2000. The experiment, located near Baton Rouge, Louisiana, consisted of five surface-drained plots, three of which were also subsurface drained. Subsurface drainage reduced surface runoff by 29%, soil loss by 44%, nitrogen loss by 33%, phosphorus loss by 29%, and potassium loss by 29%.
