Isokinetic sampling technique has been widely used in dust sampling. One of its applications is to determine the dust removal efficiency of an air cleaning devices by measuring up- and down-stream dust concentrations. One challenge in isokinetic sampling is the anisokinetic effect caused by air velocity variation. This paper theoretically analyzed the effect of upstream air velocity variations on the accuracy of efficiency measurement of a uniflow cyclone using isokinetic sampling system. Theoretical analysis shows that the error in estimating cyclone efficiency is less than 8% and 10% when the air velocity at a sampling point varies 200% and 300%, respectively. The analysis was validated by field tests, during which the air velocity varied within 200% from its designed number.
