Different systems of outdoor climate houses for fattening pigs on a practice farm were compared to the existing supplemental heated insulated stable with 400 places. The three different systems were an outdoor climate stable with kennels (partly slatted and with straw litter) and partial slatted floor on liquid manure basis for 600 fattening pigs. The three-year investigations were completed studying the construction, stable climate, animal behavior, costs and achievements, ammonia concentrations and emissions. Results from the investigated systems were comparable with standard usage. In summary, outdoor climate stables with kennels represent an alternative to conventional stable systems and offer a practicable solution for the future. (Download PDF)    (Export to EndNotes)
