DIELECTRIC DRYING OF SEED COTTON AND INSECT CONTAMINATED LINT

A radio frequency (RF) oven was used to reduce the moisture level of seed cotton and baled lint. The RF oven was very efficient at lowering seed cotton moisture from 10 to 12 percent to the 6 to 7 percent level necessary for efficient cleaning and ginning. The reduction of the moisture of the bale lint from the 6 to 7 percent to the 1 to 2 percent level moderated the stickiness of insect contaminated cottons, but the temperature and time combinations which were effective caused a noticeable yellowing of the ginned lint.
