This paper describes a simulation study to predict the utilization of waste heat in a tomato greenhouse. Methane from an ambient temperature anaerobic digester is used to power an electrical generator, producing electrical energy and waste heat. The waste heat is used to supplement the heating needs of a greenhouse tomato crop which is being used to absorb nutrients from the digester effluent. Kimballs Modular Energy Balance Model for greenhouse environments was modified to include a subroutine to describe the waste heat system. The study predicts that as much as 55% of the heating needs of a 2741 m2 greenhouse in Raleigh, NC, can be supplied using the waste heat.
